We're Having Big Fun Over at Patron-Only Secret Blog!
A few months back I realized that I had a serious problem. My monthly Patreon haul had plummeted from a high of 3800 dollars a month and 675 patrons to something in the area of 475 patrons and under 2500 dollars.
That’s not great!
Considering that the Patreon money for Nathan Rabin’s Happy Place is my primary source of income, that was very alarming.
I had to do something big to get the momentum going in the right direction and introducing new patron-exclusive merchandise has never worked for me, for whatever reason.
So I decided that I would try to once again write my way out of a bind. I created a secret blog that only patrons could read that would be updated even more the Big Whoop, my main blog.
I publish The Big Whoop blog posts on Monday, Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, I rest, as the good lord intended, and then Saturday and Sunday are devoted to binging on various illicit substances and making it rain in the strip club.
The secret blog however, is published Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday AND Friday. I’m no mathematician or science genius but that’s over three times as many blogs! Or a hundred times! Again, I’m VERY bad at math.
You know what I’m good at? Writing secret blogs. Since January 28th, 2022 I have published a secret blog post EVERY single weekday. I have not missed a single goddamn day! That is truly a Cal Ripken Jr.-like streak but more impressive because it’s honestly much harder to write TWO daily blog posts for two months than it is to play 2,632 major league games in a row.
I envisioned the secret blog as smaller and more intimate and personal than The Big Whoop. It’s definitely smaller and more intimate, in that I spill ALL the tea. But the posts themselves are often the same length as the blogs that run on the website, if not longer.
Over the course of the last two months I have legitimately created a sizable body of work that I am extremely proud of. It’s one hell of a challenge writing a substantive blog post every day. Writing two blog posts a day is twice the challenge and then some but I have been rising to the occasion.
It’s been a challenge but it has also been a pleasure. I like to say that doing good work is its own reward. That’s true in the case of the secret blog but another wonderful reward for maintaining a secondary blog of both quality and would be a nice, sustainable increase in patrons and Patreon income.
It would also help keep this website in business and me writing up a storm.
