Missed the Kickstarter Campaign for The Fractured Mirror Book? Then Get In On the Action With Backerkit!

For the last half decade or so I have made my living through Amazon royalties, sales of self-published books and crowd-funding campaigns.

There are several distinct stages in crowd-funding campaigns. There’s the initial Kickstarter campaign, generally for 30 days, where you hopefully raise enough money to make a book project feasible and/or profitable.

Then comes the Backerkit campaign. Backerkit is an exceedingly useful service that essentially extends a Kickstarter campaign indefinitely, or at least until the release of the book.

That is the stage my upcoming book The Fractured Mirror is currently in. In a sense I have been working on The Fractured Mirror for seven years already, since I began writing the column of the same name on American movies about the film industry for TCM Backlot back in 2015, not long after letting go from The Dissolve.

My goal with the book is to write about EVERY American movie about American movies. Obviously that will be impossible but I hope to cover an exhaustive cross-section of American movies about the film industry at the very least.

The original Fractured Mirror campaign did pretty well, raising a little over eleven thousand dollars but truth be told, there are so many expenses and costs that I honestly do not know if the book will even turn a profit from its Kickstarter income, particularly once the time cost of watching and writing about so many movies is factored in.

That’s where Backerkit comes in, baby! If you missed your chance to get in on the Kickstarter campaign for The Fractured Mirror then you are in luck. You just got your second chance to give me money. Don’t blow it! I really need the money! Seriously!

And if you did participate in the Kickstarter campaign for The Fractured Mirror you can pick up additional books n’ treats through Backerkit.

The beautiful thing about crowd-funding is that it affords y’all an opportunity to make a book like The Fractured Mirror, or The Weird Accordion to Al, The Joy of Trash and/or The Weird A-Coloring to Al happen through your enthusiasm and your cold hard cash.

There’s something beautiful and pure about that. I appreciate it whenever anybody buys any of my books but there’s something special about crowd-funding campaigns. You should feel a sense of ownership and pride because you have made great books happen before and, god willing, you will do so again.

What will I be covering in The Fractured Mirror? Here’s a list of the capsule reviews I have for the book so far. I’m hoping to write about 300 movies for the book, which will run between 450 and 600 pages. This is what I have already completed:

Is there a movie I should DEFINITELY cover for the book? Let me know! I’ll be sure to cover it, particularly if you pre-order the book!

Another great thing about Backerkit and Kickstarter is that it allows me to share the book with you while I’m working on it. I’ve been cranking out entries for The Fractured Mirror at a rapid clip. I’ve already written up something like 30 blurbs that I’ve only shared with people who pre-order the book or subscribe to my Patreon account and plan to continue posting two to three The Fractured Mirror entries every week that you can only read by preordering the book or joining my Patreon.

It’s worth it!
