Elon Musk, The Academy Awards, Wokeness and the Eternal Need to Play the Victim

I block Elon Musk on what I will never stop calling Twitter because if you don’t, the algorithm assumes that you’re on the site mainly because you worship the Alt-Right buffoon and can’t get enough of him screeching about the evils of Woke Mind Virus.

It’s almost as if he bought Twitter exclusively to shove his inane, reactionary, Ketamine-addled thoughts down the public’s throat—and to impress Catturd2.

Yet I find myself writing about Musk fairly regularly for the same reason I wrote about Donald Trump during his presidency. There’s just so goddamn much to criticize! Oh, and because they’re so famous, ubiquitous, and powerful, you almost have to write about them.

I also write about Musk because his tweets and public utterances are so eminently mockable.

For example, on March 10th, Musk tweeted, “Winning an Oscar now just means that you won the woke contest.”

For Musk and reactionary like him, the Academy Awards were a meritocracy when white heterosexuals won all the awards.

Then came the plague of diversity, inclusion, and equity, as well as the dreaded “woke” mind virus, and suddenly, people who weren’t white sometimes won awards.

In Musk’s mind, Barbie’s eight nominations and Lily Gladstone’s nomination for Killers of the Flower Moon represented Wokeness in action. As the wealthiest white man in the world, he seemed personally offended and insulted by the idea that a Native American woman might win an important award white women were also nominated for in a Pinko Commie leftist message movie about how capitalism is somehow flawed because white people murdered an entire Native American tribe so that they could steal their money.

Then something funny happened. Despite delivering an astonishing, heartbreaking performance that will be talked about fifty years from now, Gladstone lost, and Emma Stone won her second award for Best Actress for Poor Things.

Stone is famously a quarter Asian and a quarter Hawaain (or Cameron Crowe obviously would not have cast her as a woman who is a quarter Asian and a quarter Hawaiian in Aloha), but she’s exceptionally white.

Barbie, meanwhile, was shut out in every category other than Best Song.

Lily Gladstone did not win. Barbie only took home one prize. Despite Musk’s conviction that Wokeness would ruin the Academy Awards the way it had ruined everything else in society, the big winner was the most Elon Musk-friendly movie possible.

Oppenheimer, a movie about a bunch of brilliant white heterosexual scientists and brainiacs who change the world with their cutting-edge technology, won almost everything it was nominated for.

Robert Downey Jr., a man worth hundreds of millions of dollars who uses his fame and fortune to defend his close personal friend, Mel Gibson, at every turn, won Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer.

Musk wishes he was Iron Man. As far as the public is concerned, RDJ IS Iron Man.

In a rare act of honesty, Musk tweeted that he was wrong the following day.

The funny thing about the tweets is that Musk seems very disappointed that his prediction that the 2024 Academy Awards would be a celebration of diversity, equity, and inclusion in which people of color and women would be given awards that they did not deserve purely for the sake of appearances did not come true.

Consciously or not, Musk wanted Barbie to win many awards and for Gladstone to win so that he, the wealthiest man in the world and the owner of the biggest and most influential social media site, could continue to play the victim.

Musk wanted his conception of the film industry as a hive of America-hating, radical left, Communist man-haters to be confirmed with the whole world watching. He wanted to be able to complain. That Oppenheimer won big seems to have brought him no joy.

Musk would rather be able to complain about The Academy Awards than have movies he liked win. He was obviously annoyed that the Academy Awards did not go the way he expected because it contradicts his belief that everyone in show business and corporate America is a communist except for him, Ben Shapiro, Cattrurd2, and The Babylon Bee.

Many white people won for a movie about brilliant, powerful, cutting-edge scientists. To Musk, that means that, for once, the show was a meritocracy instead of a circle jerk for Woke fascists.

The Oscars turned out not to be a contest for the most woke.
